TAKEN
by J.M. Hartwig

Detective Inspector Meredith Loxton and her husband, Senior Sergeant Nathan Hargreaves, leave Queensland and transfer to the Tasmania Police to pursue a quieter life. Nathan is posted to Forestdale, a small, one-cop town in the remote northwest wilderness of Tasmania’s Tarkine region, and Meredith is appointed to oversee CIB operations in the Southern Division on Tasmania’s West Coast.

However, life in Forestdale proves to be far from quiet, thanks to a cast of quirky locals, brutal winter blizzards, a historic police house rumoured to be haunted, and the corrupt legacy left by the previous officer in charge of Forestdale’s police station.

Then a traffic accident on a remote forest road, a violent offender recently released from prison, a brutal double murder, and the disappearance of the town’s hairdresser, drag Meredith and Nathan into a challenging investigation. Are the events linked? Uncovering the truth will deliver dangerous and life-threatening consequences.

THE BURNING
by J.M. Hartwig

Detective Inspector Meredith Loxton is tasked to investigate a body found washed up on Moreton Bay’s historic St Helena Island. At first glance, it appears to be a case of death by misadventure, but when more bodies are found, and the deaths are linked to a stolen car and a missing person, Meredith realises the deaths are connected.

Uncovering that connection leads Meredith into the clandestine and dangerous world of undercover policing, drug traffickers, outlaw motorcycle gangs, organised crime, and a killer who likes to burn his victims.

The investigation is one of the most challenging Meredith has undertaken. She encounters obstructions at every turn as colleagues pursuing their own investigative agendas become enemies. Despite receiving threats, Meredith refuses to back down, but will her tenacious determination to pursue the killer result in a final fiery confrontation?

VANISHING ACT
by J.M. Hartwig

Six months after the sudden death of her husband, Detective Inspector Meredith Loxton returns to Brisbane City CIB. Her senior officers doubt she is ready to return to work, but they gently ease her into the groove by tasking her to investigate the disappearance of Simone Channing, a wealthy socialite and reality TV star.
As the investigation progresses, Meredith struggles to balance her demanding career and difficult work colleagues with being a widow, a single woman and a mother to two teenage children. Those issues present enough challenges, but stumbling into an unexpected relationship with fellow police officer Nathan Hargreaves forces Meredith to expose painful lies and secrets she wants to forget.
Meredith is confident she'll find the missing woman until the discovery of a body in Simone's house changes everything. The death looks like suicide, but Meredith isn’t convinced. The investigation has too many loose ends, unanswered questions and unexplained coincidences. Why did Simone disappear? Did she kill the man in her house? Or does she have another reason for her vanishing act?
